01Education starts here.

We offer research-based solutions and guidance through collaboration between DC Recovery’s peer coaches and the District’s treatment providers to help clients think differently about their addiction challenges.

To ensure our evidence-based approaches are working, the team of peer coaches evaluates the program’s impact on clients by asking questions and applying new research insights. Such client evaluations are done during group sessions. Subsequently, coaching continues based on evidence that reveals the client’s perception level.

We use evidence gathered from research to guide practice coaching models that positively help the client learn. We know that:

Peer coaching is useful when the process engages the client’s mind, making it essential to understand research-based practices and build trust with the client.

It is important to leverage inner strengths to develop a multi-faceted approach to help the client successfully.

Peer coaches must not neglect personal needs while applying research-based best practices from professional perspectives, to put the client on a path to heal from the inside while learning.

We want our peer coaches to flourish and that is why we infuse research into solutions that transform peer coaching, client learning, and leading.

02Welcome to P.O.C.E.

P.O.C.E.’s skill-building workshops and support groups are core activities that we offer clients. Workshops and support groups are targeted at achieving the following;

Guiding the client to discover inner strengths and to understand methods that will guarantee permanent recovery

Identifying individual goals, struggles, and social relationships, while understanding the impact of these factors on the client’s life

Help the clients to understand the need to avoid certain activities that could compromise recovery and how to substitute with good habits that aid recovery

Teaching clients how to reorganize their personal lives and public image, which is essential for reintegration into the community

Teach clients how to set goals based on performance monitoring and behavioral perspectives.

The above peer coaching targets are integrated into each client’s recovery program and managed by the client’s recovery team.

03The Best Peer Coaches.

DC Recovery helps the client comprehend the reality of drug addiction, which is an essential step in accepting the peer coaching process. It is easier for the peer coach to outline the client’s behavioral problem, but we get it. We know that outlining behavioral issues without a behavioral reversal plan does not create the most receptive situation.

To help the client accept that they are addicted and there’s hope, we guide them to self-realization. Failing to do this could result in dealing with a non-responsive client. Clients become unresponsive when they are triggered, apprehensive, or feel the need to be defensive. In some cases, unresponsive clients may only go through the coaching session impassively, merely waiting for the session to end. But, clients are encouraged to actively participate during coaching sessions by asking them questions, which requires the peer coach to listen and observe the client closely during the session. Overall, clients who individually discover the positive effect of peer coaching are more receptive to learning and recovery treatment.

Our team consistently implements practical approaches to help our clients understand the program’s positive impact and why they should consent and complete to treatment.
