SUMMARY:Community Day & Health Fair - Peace Lutheran Church
DESCRIPTION:     \nOn Saturday\, 08/10/24\, Mrs. Yvonne Brown the Outreach Director at Peace Lutheran Church requested that DC Recovery participates in their annual Health Fair in Ward 7. The significant purpose of the health fair is to educate the community about the Opioid crisis in D.C. and to provide them with a hands-on training of an actual Overdose reversal using Narcan. DC Recovery set up a table at the fair and employees like Demetrius Jones provided much needed information. Demetrius is the appointed Ambassador of Opioid Abatement by our Mayor Bowser and Brian Person\, DC Recovery’s Outreach Coordinator and Narcan Trainer both trained the fair attendees. Their thorough training assisted the participants in successfully reciting the instructions provided during the training session. DC Recovery handed out Narcan samples\, written literature\, pamphlets\, hand sanitizer and masks.  The church provided free chips\, sodas\, and served yummy grilled food. \nThe well-planned event gave DC Recovery the chance to learn from other participating organizations such as the church’s organization\, Women of Peace\, and the DAMIEN Outreach Ministries that supports LGBTQ\, Black/African American\, Youths\, Asian\, at risk persons\, etc. Last but not least we were honored and blessed to be asked by Dr. Nura Lane\, the Program Director for Wards 7 & 8 Prevention Center to take a picture with us while subsequently sharing her impeccable knowledge and resources. \nThe church also distributed T-shirts and backpacks and other school supplies to kids going back to school.

SUMMARY:Back To School Community Day
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, August 15\, 2024\, DC Recovery participated in the “Back to School Community Day” event with one of the D.C. Mayor’s Outreach teams. The successful Ward 7 event was held at the Capital View Neighborhood Library located at 5001 Central Avenue\, N.E. and in attendance were service groups such as AmeriHealth\, MedStar Family Choice\, and the D.C. Public Library. SUMMARY:WCNA38 (The Power of Love)
DESCRIPTION:     \nAfter almost 30 years\, the World Convention returned to Washington\, DC\, 29 August – 1 September 2024! As expected\, it was the largest convention ever held grossing over 18\,000. The convention proved to be equipped with the facilities required to hold a massive crowd\, the security required for a large event in a capital city\, translations\, ADA accommodations\, equipment and labor\, and the technology to make the meetings visible and available in the convention center and around the world. \nThe World Convention of Narcotics Anonymous (WCNA) workgroup and more than 1500 volunteers made this event possible. Each team member exemplified this year’s theme\, the “Power of Love” with their actions and goodwill to bring the complex vision into reality. The NA World Convention is an unforgettable experience. This was the first time we’ve gathered since 2018 in the District of Columbia The Grand Hyatt Washington on 1000 H Street\, NW was also used for the large volume of guest and for all night marathon meetings. \nParticipants included Mark Spence\, Oxford House\, Kathleen Gibson\, CEO Oxford House\, Tony “GLOBE” and our DC Recovery team members Anna Mable Jones\, Community Liaison\, Community Bridges\, Janice Ferebee\, David Mays\, Judy West and Brian Person\, Community Outreach Coordinator. \nWhat a success! \nDC Recovery Community Alliance\nPeer Operated Center\n5656A 3rd Street\, NE\nWashington\, DC 20011\n(202) 916-5592
