SUMMARY:Faces & Voices of Recovery - The National Press Club Luncheon
DESCRIPTION:DC Recovery was invited to attend a luncheon at The National Press Club in Washington\, D.C.. The luncheon was hosted by Faces & Voices of Recovery on Thursday\, September 5th from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Eloquent speakers included Anna Mabel Jones\, Community Liaison\, Community Bridges and Dr. Felecia Pullen\, President & CEO\, Pillars. DC Recovery’s Community Outreach Coordinator and Certified Peer Recovery Supervisor\, Brian Person\, had the pleasure of talking with Dr. Marquita Duvernay the Clinical Director of the Residential Program Center in Arlington\, VA. Dr. Duvernay hosted our Dual-diagnosed Zoom class during the COVID pandemic affectionately called “Double\, Trouble”\, and Ms. Imani Walker\, Recovery Support Coordinator DBH. \nFaces & Voices also created a first-of-its-kind national RCO certification. This new certification\, along with our Council on Accreditation of Peer Recovery Support Services (CAPRSS)\, cements our already-high standards for peer support service delivery. DESCRIPTION:   \nThis year’s Walk for Recovery 2024 started after the National Press Club luncheon\, hosted by Faces & Voices of Recovery. The walk began Freedom Plaza and continued down to the monument. Dozens of folks participated including some who had joined that day as a result of the speech given by Anna Mable Jones\, the Community Liaison and Community Bridges leader. Ms. Jones directed her speech to the crowd explaining the significance of the walk-a-thon to the recovery community and the purpose of National Recovery Month. \nThe goal of National Recovery Month is to raise awareness that hope and healing from mental health and substance use problems are real and possible. SUMMARY:AIDS 2024 Workshop & Dinner - Clinical Education Alliance (CEA)
DESCRIPTION:September is a celebratory time for honoring the courageous folks who have overcome substance use disorders. (SUD). This is why the month is deemed National Recovery Month\, full of beneficial events including workshops\, conferences\, and dinner gatherings to pay tribute and September 5\, 2024 did not disappoint. On September 5\, 2024\, The Clinical Education Alliance (CEA) hosted a “What Did We Learn” dinner at Mastro’s Steakhouse located on 600 13th Street NW to recap the information presented earlier at the AIDS 2024 workshop from 6pm to 9pm. The presenters were Drs. Roger Bedimo and Princy N. Kumar who both discussed integrating the latest data from AIDS 2024 into practice.  The well-structured workshop reiterated topics such as “Contemporary HIV Treatment and Prevention 2024: Overcoming Barriers to PrEP Uptake” to reinforce all learnings. \nDC Recovery’s Community Outreach Coordinator\, Brian Person\, effectively network with several of the event’s illustrious guests such as Mr. Larry Gourdine\, Director of Psychiatric Institute of Washington\, Mr. Thomas Moore\, Patient Advocate at Recovery Centers of America and last but not least Ms. Caren Kirkland\, Director\, Strategic Planning\, Pathways to Housing. \nIt is always a blessing to attend events that not only honor the courageous folks in our community but events that share the much-needed information to uplift those in the community who struggle with SUD-related disorders. \nWell done\, CEA! \nDC Recovery Community Alliance\nPeer Operated Center\n5656A 3rd St. NE Washington\, D.C. 20011\n(202) 916-5589 ext.104
